Winter Wonderland
Dear River Falls Forward Foundation,
With deep appreciation, thank you for the “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” grant that you awarded to the fourth grade team at Westside. We have been able to purchase the snowshoes that we set out to purchase and use with students. We have had a chance to use the snowshoes in December, and we look forward to more use in the coming snowy months. Most importantly, the kids love the experience. I believe we are achieving our goal that students learn about the ingenuity of Indigenous cultures and develop an appreciation for Indigenous contributions to technology and society.
After snowshoeing, students commented on how fun it was to use the snowshoes. One student said, “Indigenous people were really smart to use the natural resources to get what they needed. They even got their ideas from nature, such as looking at snowshoe rabbits’ feet.”
